Women Friendly Golf Courses in South Carolina

There was a time in South Carolina when women golfers weren’t as numerous as they are now. With the popularity of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), that has all changed. Leading women golfers, such as recent teen phenomenon Michelle Wie—who can outdrive many male golfers both pro and amateur—have carved out a strong niche for women’s golf in South Carolina. Although almost every golf course in South Carolina has women’s tees, there are some golf courses that have been judged to be friendlier to women golfers than others. This does not mean these golf courses are easier; merely more accommodating to women from an amenities and quality standpoint.

South Carolina Golf Courses Market To Women

While countless courses throughout the Palmetto State are wonderfully women-friendly, Golf for Women magazine has recognized three as outstanding in this category: Willbrook Plantation in the Myrtle Beach area and Kiawah’s Ospry Point near Charleston. In addition The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort was named in 2002 and 2003 as being women-friendly in the magazine. All three are championship golf courses that have each seen their share of professional golf tournaments. For most South Carolina women’s golf experts, the criteria used by Golf for Women magazine in its selection process is generally accepted as being crucial for a women-friendly golf course designation, including playability, multiple tee offerings, layout, aesthetics, amenities, and overall quality.
